Research Ethics and Integrity - Good Research and Innovation Practices

The quality, value, benefits and reputation of research or innovation are vitally dependent on the integrity of the research or innovation activity.
Carrying out research and innovation (R&I) activities with integrity facilitates high quality R&I as it encourages researchers to pay greater attention to detail, to be rigorous, throughout. As R&I activities increase in complexity (for example interdisciplinary and/or international collaborations) maintaining integrity becomes even more important.
Research integrity is sometimes referred to as good research practices or conducting research ethically or professionally.
Research integrity has been succinctly summarised by Sir David King (former Chief Scientific Adviser to the UK Government) as a combination of:
- RIGOUR
- RESPECT
- RESPONSIBILITY
The University's academics aspire to display at all times the highest standards of research ethics and integrity.
