Our Research

Our founding motto in 1905 was Rerum Cognoscere Causas, meaning "To discover the causes of things". Our research ethos continues to uphold the ideals of discovery whilst acknowledging new ways of acquiring, investigating, developing and applying knowledge. Our researchers work to solve problems that matter and to make an impact on the wider world. In this way our research continues to benefit the UK economy and its social and cultural life.

North CampusResearch centres and institutes

Our research institutes and centres have been created to address global challenges facing society, today and in the future. They are often interdisciplinary, with external collaboration and funding, and have earnt international recognition.
