The role of Registrar and Secretary

Philip Harvey is responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for all the University's operations that lie outside the academic faculties and that comprise the complete spectrum of Professional Services. He is a member of the Vice-Chancellor's University Executive Board.

The Directors and Heads of Professional Services (Finance, Corporate Information and Computing Services; the University Library; Development and Alumni Relations; Estates; Human Resources; Academic Division; Student Services – including admissions and marketing - Careers Services, U Sport) report directly to Philip. Philip sees one of the roles of being Registrar as ensuring that the Directors of the Professional Services are properly co-ordinated and provided with sound leadership and support, and that collectively the objectives of the services are aligned with University strategy and its priorities and are being delivered through effective teamwork and collaboration.

Philip is Secretary to the University's Court, Council and Senate. He works with the Chair of Council and other independent members to ensure good governance of the University and advises on current or potential factors, policies and the external environment which may influence the achievement of the University's aims. He attends or is a member of all key policy-making committees.
