What does the Public Engagement with Research team do?
We enhance public engagement by supporting academic staff across the University in engaging the public with their research. Our team provides support for colleagues to share their work effectively. Our aim is to stimulate discussion between members of the public and the University to enhance research.
Communicating with the public about our research and teaching is an important part of academic life at the University of Sheffield. It ensures that our work has impact and relevance on a local, national and international level beyond academic excellence at the University of Sheffield.
Across all our faculties and departments our academic experts apply their insight, research, knowledge and creativity to think about the planet's challenges. Whether these are social, economic or environmental, we investigate potential solutions with relevance and impact.
Our public engagement activity describes the many innovative ways our staff and students interact with the public, from festivals, cultural celebrations, open events, lectures, volunteering, activities in schools and flexible courses.
We work alongside the National Coordinating Centre for Public Engagement (NCCPE) which aims to to increase the quantity and quality of public engagement in all UK universities.
Public engagement masterclassesWe're running a series of ten free sessions for staff and postgraduates all about engaging the public with research. The events are quite informal and there is time set aside for networking. The fifth masterclass is on Wednesday 24 July, 2–4pm in the John Carr Design Suite. We'll be looking at film and documentary skills. Professor Vanessa Toulmin and Tom Cokerill from the University of Cambridge will present the masterclass. Booking details will follow soon. |
