Project title: Factors underlying susceptibility to the stress responses associated with epileptic and non-epileptic attacks in patients with seizure disorders

This scholarship is open to UK, EU and international applicants (International applicants will need to pay the difference between the UK/EU and Overseas tuition fees). Closing date for applications is Friday, 17 February 2012.
This project will investigate the behavioural, psychologlcal and endocrine factors underlying susceptibility to the stress responses associated with epileptic seizures in human patients. Psychological approaches to mitigating both seizure-associated anxiety and seizure incidence will be evaluated. The project will be of interest primarily to graduates in psychology, biology or biomedical science.
The project is one of three studentships available within a University of Sheffield network of researchers who are interested in elucidating the mechanisms underlying stressful experiences, such as epileptic seizures, and develop new treatments for them. See here for further details.
Award details: The scholarship will cover the cost of UK/EU tuition fees and provides an annual, tax-free maintenance stipend at the standard Research Council rate (£13,590 in 2011-12). International applicants will need to pay the difference between the UK/EU and Overseas tuition fees.
Eligibility: Academic requirements: applicants should have, or expect to achieve, a first or upper second class UK honours degree or equivalent qualifications gained outside the UK in an appropriate area of study.
Allowed study options: applicants should be registering on their first year of study with the University for 2012-13.
Residency restrictions: awards are open to UK, EU and international applicants.
