Explore, analyse and discuss issues relating to journalism in a global context. This theoretical course will further develop your critical thinking and teach you key aspects of journalism.
About the courseMA - 1 year full time International perspectives on journalism studies are becoming increasingly important. People are seeking new ways of understanding journalism within the context of media globalisation. The course will examine the globalisation of professional practices and will look at transnational flows of media content. You'll discover the key debates and issues in global journalism, and learn how to compare journalism in various regions such as the developing world, the EU and its neighbours and Japan and China. Entry requirementsNormally a 2:1 degree or overseas equivalent, or relevant professional experience in the case of mature applicants. Previous journalistic experience is not required but excellent writing and communication skills are essential, plus wide general knowledge and an appetite for investigation. Good computing and word processing skills are desirable. English language requirements for overseas studentsMinimum IELTS score of 7.0 overall with a minimum of 7.0 in the writing element. You'll go on a three-day field trip to London, visiting national news organisations, parliament, politicians and well-known journalists. Guest lecturers from the media industries, regulators, campaigning groups and research institutes speak regularly in the department. We also organise visits from specialised journalists and correspondents who offer advice and short workshops in certain practical skills. International OpportunitiesStudents doing the MA in Global Journalism are encouraged to take advantage of opportunities offered by the ERASMUS programme to spend time abroad as part of their degree programme. ERASMUS offer a small stipend for support. |
