Your career

A masters from Sheffield is the mark of someone who thinks differently. Our graduates are creative, disciplined individuals who make a difference wherever they go. Recent graduates are now employed as journalists all over the UK and in many countries overseas.

In television they're working for the BBC and Sky News; in radio for BBC and independent radio stations around the country.

About us

You'll be taught by professionals who have worked at the highest level in newspaper, magazine, radio, television and online journalism. You'll gain professional skills that allow you to specialise, yet are flexible enough to give you a real edge in a rapidly changing multimedia world. Discussion of journalism ideas informs all our journalism degrees.

We have strong industry links. You'll go on a three-day field trip to London, visiting national news organisations for briefings on current developments with senior editors and meeting politicians and well-known journalists. Guest lecturers from the media industries, regulators, campaigning groups and research institutes speak regularly in the department. Guest broadcast editors run radio and television 'newsdays'.

No 1 in the UK for student satisfaction in Journalism Studies.

Work experience opportunities

Throughout your course you'll get the chance to take part in periods of work experience. Employers regularly notify us of opportunities and we have a dedicated work placement administrator who'll help find an opportunity that's right for you. Previous students have found that work placements often lead to employment after graduation.

Professional accreditation

These courses are accredited by the Broadcast Journalism Training Council.
