About the course

3 years full time

This professional training course will give you the skills to practise as an educational psychologist. With both theoretical and practical training, you'll be well prepared for your future career.

Entry requirements

You'll need an honours degree in psychology, or equivalent that is recognised by the BPS for graduate membership. You must have relevant knowledge and experience of working with children within educational, childcare or community settings.

English language requirements

IELTS 6.5 (with at least 5.5 in each part), or TOEFL 91 (IBT), or equivalent.

Content

  • Developmental Psychology
  • Assessment and Intervention
  • The Education of Children with Additional Needs
  • Group Training for Support Staff
  • Professional Issues
  • Practical placements spent within local authority services, including educational psychology services and schools

Teaching

A mix of placement, private study and teaching from tutors. Your usual weekly pattern will be:

  • Year 1: two days teaching, one day private study, two days work placement
  • Year 2: one day teaching, one day private study, three days work placement
  • Year 3: one day teaching or private study, four days work placement

Assessment

  • Essays
  • Practical work folders
  • Dissertation including research portfolio

For the dissertation study, you'll be supported by an experienced research tutor who has expertise in the appropriate field.
