About the course

9 months part time by distance learning

If you want to join one of our MSc courses but don't have the right qualifications, this nine month course is perfect preparation. You'll study by distance learning and the course will give you training in undergraduate-level mathematics and statistics.

Successful completion of the course with a high-level pass in the examinations will qualify you to enter the MSc course.

Entry requirements

An honours degree in any subject and evidence of mathematics qualifications to at least school-leaving level.

English language requirements

IELTS 6.5 (with no less than 5.5 in each part), or TOEFL 90–91 (iBT), or equivalent.

Three 20-credit modules in:

  • Mathematical Methods for Statistics
  • Probability and Probability Distributions
  • Basic Statistics

Teaching

You'll be taught via distance learning through the web.

Assessment

  • Examinations
  • Assessed coursework

Exams will be taken in Sheffield at the end of the course.

About us

This means they're up to date with current applications of statistical methods, so what we teach you is based on the very latest developments.

The department has its own Statistical Services Unit, which provides a range of services to industry, commerce and the public services, including consultancy, training courses and the development of computer software.
