Career

The course addresses a shortage of graduates with the skills in plant biology needed in the agricultural and forestry industries, in plant breeding, biofuel and plant biotechnology applications, and to research climate change and pollution impacts on plants.

Employment opportunities include plant biotechnology and breeding industries, in research, international development, and sustainable farming systems.

Facilities

You'll be based at the £4.5M purpose-built Arthur Willis Environment Centre, which was opened in 2009. We have modern plant research facilities including a state-of-the -art Grodome and plant growth chambers that can simulate climatic conditions that range from arctic to tropical environments.

The department has outstanding analytical facilities including the NERC Molecular Genetics facility and a mass-spectrometry suite and modern laboratories and study space.
