Public Health (Management and Leadership) - MPH

We have a worldwide reputation for research in public health, health services and health economics. The 2008 Research Assessment Exercise places us first in the UK for health services research.

About the course

1 year full time/2 years part time

You'll learn core skills in management science and take options from the MPH programme. The course combines public health, management, health services research and health economics. This combination is not available from an MBA or a pure MPH or MSc programme.

Entry requirements

2:1 honours degree or relevant professional qualification and experience.

English language requirements for overseas students

IELTS 7.0 (with no less than 6.5 in each part), or TOEFL 100 (iBT), or equivalent

Full-time, part-time or distance learning

You can study full-time over a year or part-time over two years. If you take the part-time option, you'll attend one full day of teaching per week during term time.

Lectures take place on a Friday in the first year and Wednesday in the second year. Some optional sessions, such as visiting lectures and skills classes may be delivered at other times.

Our courses help you develop the skills and knowledge you need to understand and improve health services. We offer postgraduate study programmes for health and social care professionals, managers and those wanting a career in health services research.

Our graduates go on to positions in health services management and health and social care, and to further clinical training or academic research.

About us

We employ around 200 staff and attract £6 million per year in external support. Our staff are active in their research. This means that what we teach you is based on current findings. We have experts in health economics, public health sciences, the sociology of health, health psychology, decision analysis, management sciences, epidemiology, medical statistics and information science.

Our programmes are popular with students from all over the world. We currently have over 28 different nationalities of students enrolled on our courses.

We have purpose-built executive teaching facilities for our students. You'll have 24/7 access to library and computing facilities. We provide specialist information and library services in our information resources section.
