About the course2 years full time Recognised by the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists and the Health Professions Council, this two year full-time course will give you the necessary training to gain your professional qualification for a career in speech and language therapy. You'll develop the knowledge and skills needed to assess and manage a range of communication and swallowing disorders. Your skills will be put into practice through a series of clinical placements throughout the course. Entry requirementsYou'll need a minimum of a 2:1 in a relevant subject such as psychology, linguistics or biomedical science and you must hold your degree at the time of application. Some work experience relevant to speech and language therapy is required. If you have a degree in a subject other than those listed but have worked in an area relevant to speech and language therapy, eg as a speech and language therapy assistant, we will consider your application. If you are shortlisted for the course, we will invite you to attend an interview. You must produce an enhanced Criminal Records Bureau disclosure and complete a health screening before starting the course. English language requirementsIELTS 8 (with no less than 7.5 in each part) or Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English Grade B or above. Entry requirements for international students Course contentThe course follows six main themes:Communication, Participation and Society, Research Methods, Biomedical Sciences, Key Clinical Skills, and Clinical Placements. CommunicationYou'll study linguistics, psychology and how this relates to speech and language pathology. Participation and SocietyYou'll gain an understanding of how the study of sociology and social and health psychology impact on speech and language therapy. ResearchYou'll develop valuable research skills that are essential to providing evidence-based health care. Biomedical SciencesYou'll gain an in-depth understanding of anatomy, physiology, audiology and neurology, and how to link this medical knowledge to speech and language pathology. Key Clinical Skills and Clinical PracticeYou'll develop your clinical skills and professional competence to enable you to work with a range of clients with communication impairments. Teaching
