About the course1 year full time/2 years part time Extend your knowledge of Hispanic language and culture with this structured but flexible course. Entry requirementsYou'll need a first or 2:1 honours degree, or equivalent, in any branch of Hispanic Studies, or in other subjects with good language skills and strong Hispanic interests. English language requirements for overseas studentsIELTS 7 (with at least 6.5 in each part), or TOEFL iBT 87, or equivalent. This is a minimum requirement and occasionally we’ll ask for higher scores. Entry requirements for international students Course contentYour study will include subject-based modules and optional tailor-made directed reading modules. You'll have research training, supervised study on a specialised linguistic, literary, cultural or social topic related to your other chosen areas, and complete a dissertation. Your careerYou'll develop the skills for a career in areas as diverse as higher education, export marketing, creative writing, librarianship and arts administration. Our departmentYou'll join a department comprising ten expert scholars in Hispanic languages and cultures. We're recognised as a centre of excellence in Hispanic research. We possess outstanding strengths in the field of Latin American literature, culture and society, as well as in contemporary Spanish culture and society and nineteenth-century Spanish culture (with a major research project on Pérez Galdós). We're specialists in Catalan studies, and the modern literature and culture of the Portuguese-speaking world. We also have expertise in contemporary Spanish politics and the novel, the media in the Spanish-speaking world, and Hispanic linguistics, language policy and planning. Facilities and resourcesYour learning is supported by our extensive Hispanic and Catalan collections. You'll have access to films, DVD and CD-ROM materials and recent Spanish, Catalan and Portuguese-language newspapers and periodicals. We're based in a new, specially designed building, with modern flexible learning, teaching and research spaces.
