Visiting research students
To become a Visiting Research Student you must also apply formally for admission to the University. Copies of the Postgraduate Prospectus may be obtained by completing the on-line form.

We would also recommend that you contact the department you wish to visit and talk to someone there, before sending in a formal application.
An application form is available in PDF and Word format. Some of the points you should bear in mind when applying as a Visiting Research Student are listed below:
- As a Visiting Student you would register with the University but would not be eligible for a degree or any other qualification. However, a certificate of attendance can be issued if you need it and a transcript of the modules you have taken and the level of achievement within them can be forwarded to your own institution if required.
- You may attend all the lectures, seminars, tutorials and, where applicable, laboratory work associated with the agreed programme of study. You may also be assessed, if you wish, in a manner similar to students reading for a qualification in the department(s) concerned.
- The offer letter would normally specify details of the programme of study for which you have been accepted, along with the period of study and the fees payable.
- Fees for Visiting Students are charged pro rata: e.g. If you wish to study for one full year you would be charged the Full Time Fee applicable for that year. However, if you only wished to study for 6 months you would only be charged for those six months, that is half the Full Time Fee applicable for that year.
- An offer to Visiting Students is also made on the understanding that if it results in your being admitted to the University you would undertake to observe the Charter, Statutes and Ordinances and Regulations of the University and also to abide by the rules and regulations the University makes for its students from time to time.
- Details regarding registration and housing would be sent to you once we have received your acceptance of an offer.

WUN international research mobility students
The University of Sheffield is pleased to consider hosting incoming Wolrdwide Universities Network visiting research students under the WUN International Research Mobility Scheme (IRMS).
You can apply for this scheme as soon as you know that you have been accepted in principle by a host supervisor, so you will need to contact the relevant academic department and discuss your proposal beforehand.
You should use the same application form as a standard Visiting Student and tick the relevant WUN box. Please note that WUN students are not liable for tuition fees, except in exceptional circumstances.
If you require further general information about this scheme, please see the WUN link on the right.
