White Rose Scholarships
White Rose Scholarships arise from the special relationship between the three 'White Rose' universities of Leeds, Sheffield and York. The scholarships are collaborative in nature and involve supervisors from two of the White Rose universities (a principal supervisor at the lead institution and a co-supervisor at the partner institution). Students register at one of the three universities and have access to the full research facilities of the partner institution. Each scholarship is part of a research network that spans all three universities.
Applications for White Rose Scholarships for entry in 2011-12 are now closed. Future projects will be advertised as they become available (likely to be early 2012 for 2012-13 entry).
Award details
A White Rose Scholarship award will cover the cost of the UK/EU tuition fees and provide an annual, tax-free maintenance stipend at the standard UK research rate, which for 2011-12 was £13,590. In addition, a support grant of £900 per annum will be made available to the lead supervisor. These funds can be used for project research expenses at the discretion of the supervisor.
International applicants will be required to pay the difference between the UK/EU tuition fee and the Overseas tuition fee. Students in receipt of such awards are therefore expected to find alternative means of support for the remainder of the tuition fee.
Awards are tenable for a maximum of three years, subject to satisfactory progress.
Eligibility
- Academic requirements – applicants should have, or expect to achieve, a first or upper second class UK honours degree or equivalent qualifications gained outside the UK in an appropriate area of study.
- Allowed study options – applicants should be registering on their first year of study with the University on a White Rose Network project.
- Residency restrictions – awards are open to UK, EU and international applicants. International applicants will required to prove that they have sufficient funds to cover the difference between the UK/EU and Overseas tuition fees.
How to apply
White Rose Scholarships will be advertised in the PhD Projects Directory as they become available.
