Fulbright Commission Postgraduate Student Awards

The Fulbright Commission was founded in 1948 by United States Senator J. William Fulbright to promote leadership, learning and empathy between nations through educational exchange. Each year between 8 and 14 Fulbright awards are offered to US citizens to be used towards tuition fees and maintenance costs in their first year of a Masters or PhD study in any discipline at any UK university.

Since its inception, nearly 300,000 extraordinary women and men from all over the world have had their lives changed profoundly by the Fulbright Programme. More Fulbright alumni have won Nobel Prizes than those of any other academic program.

Award details

The total value of a Fulbright award varies a little according to the circumstances of each applicant, but the figure tends on average to be about £20,000 a year. This comprises the cost of the Overseas tuition fees and a monthly maintenance stipend.
