Before you apply
Before you apply for postgraduate research you should contact the academic department you are interested in to check that they have an appropriately qualified supervisor in the area you wish to study. A full list of our formal policies relating to Admissions is available on our Policies webpages. This includes our Student Admissions Policy and our minimum English language requirements.

You can find information about the documents you should include to support your application, and how to supply these, in our Supporting Documents guidance:
Although we recommend you start in September/October, it is usually possible to start postgraduate research at any point in the year. Therefore in most cases there are no specific deadlines for submitting your application. You can state your preferred start date on your application, although this will need to be confirmed by the academic department.
You should leave yourself plenty of time between applying and your start date in which to make arrangements to come to Sheffield if we make you an offer, particularly if you are an International applicant and will need to arrange a student visa.
After you apply
You can find out what happens after you have submitted your application on our After You Apply webpages. When we have made a decision on your application we will send you an email to tell you what that decision is and what you need to do next.
If you will need a visa to study in the UK, you can find more information about when and how we will arrange your CAS number on our CAS Application webpages:
If you have any further questions about the University and applying to study here, please Ask Sheffield.
We wish you the best of luck with your application.
