Postgraduate online chats

There are no forthcoming web chats. Please keep checking this page for information about future chats. We will will be holding regular chats for prospective postgraduates from January 2012.

Whether you have already applied for a postgraduate place here at Sheffield or are just thinking about it, why not join in one of our online chats? They are a great way for you to get your questions answered in an informal and easy way.

During our postgraduate chats, our experts will be online to answer your general questions about studying at Sheffield, applying for study here, postgraduate funding and much more.

A list of upcoming online chats of interest to prospective postgraduate students will be listed below. Put the dates in your diary and log in to chats that appeal most to you. When a chat is running, a link to enable you to register and log in to each chat will appear below.

How to take part

If you have already applied to The University of Sheffield or are in receipt of an offer, please note that specific details about your application cannot be discussed in the chatroom as there will be other applicants participating at the same time. However you will be able to follow up any personal enquiries directly with the members of staff participating following the chat session.

• By logging in to the chat room you automatically agree to our terms and conditions
• Choose a chat you wish to join from the list above. When the chat becomes available, click the link, 'Join our web chat...'.
• If this is your first time joining a web chat, please create a new user account. You can use any name you like but please do ensure that your name is not offensive to other chat users. If you have participated in a webchat previously, you can use your existing username and password.
• When the chat is about to take place, or has already started, login with your username and password. After you have typed your username and password, select the chatroom you want to join and hit 'Login'.
• Applicants and offer holders- you will not be able to discuss specific details about your application during the chat. You will be able to make personal enquiries directly with staff members following the chat.
• After you've logged in you will see your own name on the right hand side of the screen as well as the usernames of other chatroom users. You can contribute to the general discussion that takes place on the main screen, join another chatroom (by clicking the dropdown box at the top of the screen), or speak to someone privately by left-clicking their name and inviting them for a private chat.
• Please note that the chatroom can be busy at times and it is not always possible to deal with every user individually or answer every single query. If your query has not been covered during our chat please do contact us by email.
