Politics Society
The Politics Society (POLSOC) offers both students of the department of politics and people interested in the political arena a wide range of opportunities. The Society provides fantastic chances to meet new people and develop politically. It does this through hosting exciting socials, amazing trips and balls, fab charity and volunteering events and superb guest political speaker events.
- World Renowned Socials
A fantastic night out with drinks offers, exclusive locations, and the best group of students in Sheffield. A great way to make friends on your course, recent socials have included trips to Alton Towers, cinematic excursions and paintballing. - Events
The opportunity to visit some of the most important political cities in the world, and have a fantastic time doing so. Past visits have included Edinburgh, Brussels, Amsterdam and most recently Paris. Events also include the end of year Ball, held last year at the Hilton hotel in Sheffield. - Political Events
This year, POLSOC has decided to become a little more... well, political. A varied programme of political events has been developed following student demand. - Sports
POLSOC has created two extremely successful sports teams. Both Netball and Football teams won their respective intramural championships in recent years or have come extremely close. With a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, the squads include players of all abilities who want to make friends and play a little competitive sport. - Graduate Prospects
POLSOC can support you through career advice, links and events. - Charity and Volunteering Opportunities
Introduced in 2010, POLSOC offers a range of opportunities to get involved in charity and volunteering, including one-off sessions and major fundraising events. - First year support
POLSOC specifically designs events and socials to maximise first year integration in a course with some of the lowest contact hours in the University. Members can contact POLSOC reps for a range of information and support. - International Support
POLSOC aims to make adapting to the department and to uni life more sociable and enjoyable, and offers information and support to its International members. - Post-Graduate Community
POLSOC has a Post-Graduate Secretary for the first time in 2012. Exclusive post-grad events are also planned.

The Exchange
A highly successful programme of high-profile political speaker events at the University. Its aim is to reinvigorate participation and interest in politics by hosting high-profile and prestigious political figures. In recent years, The Exchange has played host to such high calibre speakers as David Held, The Global Poverty Project, Duncan Green of OXFAM, Political Activist and Guardian jouranlist Selma James, David Blunkett, Jack Straw and even a special event with Eddie Izzard. Additionally, Exchange members have opportunities to become involved in the hosting of these events, giving them opportunities no other society can offer. Due to its massive success, The Exchange has now become a working committee separate from POLSOC within the union. However, there are strong links between the two groups.
