No. of credits: 20
Module Leader: Dr Katharine Adeney
This module is intended to familiarise students taking degree programmes in politics with a range of approaches and methods used in the study of contemporary political phenomena. It examines how we acquire knowledge about political ideas, institutions and practices. Attention is paid to positive and interpretive understandings of political studies, and to both qualitative and quantitative approaches. Particular attention is paid to the collection, analysis and utilisation of quantitative data, and to the important role occupied by numerical and statistical claims in contemporary political argument.
