BA Russian and Politics

The dual degree in Russian and Politics is a four year course which provides the opportunity to study a wide range of theories related to contemporary issues, poitical theory and the discipline of political studies, alongside the language, society, literature, visual art and thought of Russia. Our students gain a range of personal transferable skills, including communication and presentation skills, working in groups, writing reports and essays, gathering information and planning projects.

Through the course at Sheffield and the Year Abroad in Russia, students can attain a high standard in speaking, writing, reading and understanding Russian. This is complemented by the study of modern Russian society, culture and history. Russian courses at Sheffield focus on small-group teaching. You'll be taught by internationally-renowned experts in our field and by native speakers of the language. All students follow either a beginners or an advanced (post A'Level) Russian course, depending on their qualifications. They also follow a core programme of modules in Russian culture and civilisation that complements language instruction at each level. In addition, you may also choose from an exciting range of optional modules, including literature, Russian politics and culture, Russian and Soviet art, East European cinema, linguistics and other Slavonic languages (Czech or Polish). Students of Modern languages at sheffield normally spend a full academic year abroad as a course requirement.
