BA Single Honours Politics

A single honours degree in Politics introduces you to a wide range of theories related to contemporary issues, political theory and to the dicipline of political studies. It will teach you to apply concepts, theories and methods used in the study of politics to the analysis of political ideas, institutions and practices.

Level One

• Five core modules in Politics worth 100 credits:
  POL113 Introduction to Political Analysis
  POL109 Comparing Modern Polities
  POL110 An Introduction to the History of Western Political Thought
  POL111 The Politics of Globalisation
  POL112 British Politics
• Either POL114 Introduction to Security Studies
  or
  Unrestricted modules worth 20 credits. These can be from Politics or any other department.

Level Two

• Two core modules in Politics worth 40 credits:
  POL229 Political Analysis: Research Design and Data Analysis
  POL224 Modern Political Thought
• Four option modules in Politics worth 80 credits

Level Three

• Two core modules in Politics worth 60 credits:
  Either POL3017 Dissertation in Politics, POL3103 Work Based Learning Dissertation or POL3104 Dissertation in Political Analysis, and POL3018 Advanced Political Analysis;
• Two L3 Politics taught modules;
• One L3 Politics project option relating to one of the taught modules.
