BA Economics and Politics
The dual honours degree in Economics and Politics focuses on the interaction between economic and political aspects of the modern world. The course combines the application of concepts, theories and methods used in the study of politics to analyse political ideas, institutions and practices, with a solid grounding in modern economic theory, incorporating the issues underlying current debates on economic policy and the quantitative and analytical skills essential for economists.
The Departments of Politics and Economics are highly regarded for both research and teaching. Within the Department of Politics there are a number of academics at the forefront of the study of Political Economy, and the Department of Economics has strengths in applied economics and econometrics including labour, health, education, development and international finance. Academic staff in both Departments play an active role in the provision of research and policy advice for major UK government departments, as well as for a number of international organisations such as the World Bank and UNESCO.
