In the last three years over 70% of our undergraduates have gained a first or upper second class degree. The combination of specific knowledge in Physics, Astrophysics, Mathematics and related subjects, numerical techniques, programming and problem solving, and the ability to think critically and logically as a scientist will lead to a wide range of future careers.

Our degrees are designed to prepare you for a career or further study with emphasis on communication skills (both oral and written), time management, group working and IT. You will become a critical, analytical and creative thinker able to participate fully in the modern global job market.

Many career options require your specific scientific knowledge, for example Renewable energy, Nanotechnology, Space exploration industries, Telecommunications, Teaching, Scientific research – either in industry or via a PhD. Other career opportunities build on the extensive skills acquired during your degree, for example computing, insurance, accountancy, and consultancy. Whichever degree you choose to study with us your career prospects are excellent.

Graduate Case Studies The Careers service has recently introduced a database of case studies from graduates providing a realistic insight into the world of work. In addition, graduates provide advice and comments about their experience since leaving university. This site was recently launched, and we therefore only have a few case studies at the moment. About the University Careers Service The University Careers Service plays a key role in ensuring the continued success of Sheffield and the department's graduates as they move on to employment or further study. The Careers Service provides information and guidance on career skills, plus an events programme ranging from career planning to support with applications and interviews.
