Profile: Robin Scaife

Biography
Robin Scaife recently completed his PhD here at the University of Sheffield. His thesis is concerned with the threat that empirical evidence of automaticity poses to the psychological requirements posited by many theoretical accounts of free will. Robin’s primary research interests remain in the areas of Moral Psychology and the Philosophy of Psychology. His current work focuses on issues concerning the accuracy of our ability to know our own motives and the implications this may have for our self-control.
Robin also has a keen interest in experimental philosophy. He is a founder member of Experimental Philosophy Group UK. He has also co-authored a paper (with Jon Webber, Cardiff) which uses experimental data to examine the issue of how people make intentionality judgements about side effects of action. They are currently working on a follow up paper which focuses on how implicature impacts on the design and analysis of research in experimental philosophy.
