Joshua Forstenzer

Joshua's doctoral research seeks to bring John Dewey's conceptions of democracy and citizenship to bear on contemporary debates relating to method in political philosophy; specifically, he aims to argue that Dewey provides an account of democratic political processes which can prove to be useful for political philosophers seeking to engage with political practice. More generally though, he is interested in political philosophy, the history of political thought, American Pragmatism, ethics and social philosophy. Joshua also has interests in continental philosophy, the philosophy of social science and the philosophy of education.

Max took a BSc in physics in Manchester.  He's since worked just about everywhere, including central government (the former ODPM), a military contractor, a nuclear power station, Umbro sportswear (when they were taken over by Nike), the FIA Sportscar championship, and several marketing and advertising agencies.  He's trained as a graphic designer and teaches on a photography course.  Current research is into how the mind works, not least his own.

Jonathan Payne

Jonathan is in his first year of the PhD program, where his principal interest is in philosophy of mathematics, and in particular neo-logicism. He is interested especially in the interaction of two features of neo-logicism, namely the problem of 'bad company' and attempts to build a neo-logicist foundation of set theory.

Angie’s PhD thesis is on feminism and global justice. More specifically, she is attempting to show that cosmopolitanism is the only approach to global justice that feminists can coherently take.
