About Quality Assurance (QAA) and the Research Assessment Exercise (RAE)

In the Autumn 2000 the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education reviewed the Philosophy Department, assessing all undergraduate teaching, and the MA and Research Training Year postgraduate programmes.

The review was carried out by a team of subject specialists, whose concern was the quality of the student learning experience and the student achievement.

They consider six aspects of provision, including 'Curriculum Design', Teaching Learning and Assessment', Student Progression and Achievement', 'Student Support'. The Philosophy Department at Sheffield received a grade of four out of four for all six aspects, a maximum score of 24.
