Careers and Placement

careers

A postgraduate degree in Philosophy can be useful in pursuing many careers, because many employers value the independent thought and capacity for research that such a degree provides.

Those hoping to make a career out of philosophy should think about their CV from the start of their graduate work - in terms of choice of a range of courses, obtaining teaching experience, and publishing papers. The Department has a Postgraduate Careers Officer who handles placement. Recent graduates have obtained positions at the Universities of Aberdeen, Birmingham, Bristol, Cambridge, Cardiff, Cork, East Anglia, Edinburgh, Essex, Hong Kong, Keele, Kent, Leeds, Liverpool, Macquarie (Australia), Manchester, Manitoba (Canada), Minas Gerais (Brazil), Nottingham, Open, Sheffield, Stirling, Trinity College Dublin and UNAM (Mexico).
