The University

The University of Sheffield has one of the best Unions in the country. It has a cinema, 3 bars, 2 restaurants, shop, computer area, salad bar, advice centre, a huge coffee outlet, comedy night, 6 club nights and a range of activities with the give it a go programme. There are fantastic sports facilities. And there are so many societies you could exhaust yourself just thinking about which to join!

The City

Sheffield is a little-big town, or a big-little town, it depends where you come from. It is full of bars, cafes, clubs, museums, cinemas and everything you'd expect from a major urban centre, including the leading independent cinema The Showroom. The city also combines a fascinating industrial heritage with a superb location, within the beautiful and unique peak district. This makes it a leading centre for outdoor activities, climbing in particular.

The Department

The department is excellent, but there are other pages to tell you this. What is also worth telling is how the students contribute to the department being an excellent place. There is a student run Philosophy society. There is a student run outreach Philosophy outreach program, called "Philosophy in the City". And there is a student run conference-away-weekend, our "Reading Weekend".
