Outline:This course will examine some ancient and modern themes such as the existence of abstract objects, ontological commitment, the ontology of material objects, and the nature of time. Readings are likely to include Russell, Quine, Meinong, and van Inwagen. |
PresentationsStudents will have the opportunity to make presentations in seminars (but it will not form part of the assessment for the course). |
Preparatory ReadingA good place to start is E.J. Lowe, A Survey of Metaphysics (OUP). |
Assessment:One coursework essay (50%) and one two hour examination (unseen, 50%); or one long essay. |
