Course Description

This seminar is intended to develop your skills of close critical reading of cutting edge work in philosophy of mind and language. In the seminar we will read and discuss a representative sampling of important new work in a variety of areas of philosophy of mind and language. Each week we will have short student presentations (no more than 10-15 minutes) basically designed to give a general overview of the reading, and to get the discussion going. In presentations, you needn´t aim for completeness, and you should feel free to put in your own views, which might also serve as a catalyst for discussion.
Topics covered will be decided in discussion on the first day with an eye to student interests.

It is the responsibility of all those participating to read all the papers we will be discussing closely and to come to the seminar each week prepared to contribute to the discussion. This is the minimum required of everyone. In addition, you may want to read other material around the topic for the week, and I will be happy to provide suggestions along these lines.

If you are taking the seminar officially and want to write an essay connected to it for assessment, then you should plan to meet with me sometime before the middle of the semester to discuss potential topics and readings. Later in the semester we can arrange meetings to discuss a draft of your essay.
