Biography

I joined the University of Sheffield in 2004 and have been closely involved in teaching undergraduate BMedSci orthoptic students. Further I am the Admissions Tutor for the undergraduate orthoptic degree programme and criminal records bureau (CRB) countersignatory. I work as an orthoptist on an honorary contract basis at the Sheffield Children´s Hospital.

Research Interests

I am supervisor for final year undergraduate research projects. My research interests are visual field testing in children, neurological cases and glaucoma using static and kinetic perimetry and visual findings following a stroke.

Teaching Interests

I have a teaching contract and have a particular interest in teaching undergraduate orthoptics students in all aspects of theoretical and practical orthoptics. I am interested in using different teaching and learning styles and encourage student interaction in order to deepen student learning and enhance quality of teaching. The debate about valuable methods of feedback I find interesting.

Professional activities

I am a member of the British and Irish Orthoptic Society (BIOS), the Danish Orthoptic Society and registered with the Health Professions Council (HPC). I am also an active member of the BIOS Special Interest Stroke and Special Interest Glaucoma groups.

Current projects

This Summer 2010 I aim to commence research examining the value of the recently developed automated Goldmann perimeter when testing children. This research will be undertaken in collaboration with the Orthoptic Department at the Sheffield Children´s Hospital
