Council Tax

1. The spouse of a student is not liable to pay Council Tax IF

s/he is not a British Citizen and
s/he is not permitted to work or claim benefits;
Most non-EU international students' spouses are exempt from Council Tax since they cannot claim benefits.
If spouse is an EU national, the property will usually attract Council Tax with a discount;
If the spouse is not an EU national, tax will not usually be payable.
