Sixth form work experience project

Students and SOAMS ambassadors at the Longley CentreAcademic Clinical Psychiatry, in collaboration with Postgraduate Services of The Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS Trust, arranged a sixth form work experience placement. This is a new initiative targeting sixth form students with an interest in medicine and science. It is intended this project will become an annual event with numerous placements offered to local schools and colleges.

18 students from local schools shadowed Consultant Psychiatrists with an intensive timetable for 3 days. After their work experience placement, a feedback session was arranged for students to share and present their findings.

The feedback session took place on 16th November 2011 in Academic Clinical Psychiatry. The students and their College tutors shared their experiences of the project. Two SOAMS ambassadors from The University of Sheffield gave an excellent presentation telling the audience their experience of being a medical student at The University of Sheffield.
