Research techniques: Neuropsychology
Neuropsychology is the study of brain-behaviour relationships. Neuropsychologists are able to assess cognitive strengths and weaknesses, provide diagnostic impressions, and treat a wide range of psychiatric and neurological patients.
In Academic Clinical Psychiatry we use neuropsychological tests to provide quantitative data to examine executive, attention, visual-spatial, memory, and language domains. Neuropsychological paradigms are often used in our brain scanning research involving fMRI and Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation. Some ongoing studies include individuals with schizophrenia and Alzheimer's disease, as well as homeless individuals with mental health concerns.
During weekly Case Conferences neuropsychological findings are often integrated with psychological and psychosocial data to enhance behavioural intervention strategies.
