Research techniques
We use a wide range of different techniques to investigate the biological basis of psychiatric disorders. These include:
Functional MRIFunctional MRI (fMRI) is a scanning technique which allows us to look at how brain activation changes when a subject performs a specific task, or in response to particular stimulus. |
Structural MRIStructural MRI scanning is used to examine the physical structure of the brain. This allows us to investigate differences in the structure of certain brain regions between populations. |
Skin conductance responseSCR is a technique for measuring the levels of autonomic arousal in a subject. We have specially designed SCR measurement equipment which can be used in the MRI scanner. |
