Academic Unit of Neurology

Welcome to the Academic Unit of Neurology within the Department of Neurosciences at the University of Sheffield, an internationally renowed centre of excellance for teaching & research.

Academic Neurology Unit is currently located within the Medical School at the Royal hallamshire hospital but in the autumn of 2010 will move to into the Sheffield Institute for Translational Neuroscience, a purpose built state of the art facility adjacent to the hospital. The Unit is lead by Professor Shaw who took up the Chair of Neurology at Sheffield in 2000, her research teams major interests are molecular, neurochemical and genetic mechanisms of neurodegenerative disease with particular focus on the motor system.
The Unit has strong links with other strong Neuroscience groups across the University, particularly within
Biomedical Sciences (Molecular Physiology; Centre for Developmental and Biomedical Genetics and the Sheffield
Centre for Stem Cell Biology) and within the Psychology department.
