Open Days
The University of Sheffield held a number of Campus wide Open Days for potential students. (15th June, 6th and 7th July and 4th September 2012 , see http://www.sheffield.ac.uk/opendays for more information.)
Given the rise in tuition fees, the Department of Music is committed to demonstrating what a music degree at Sheffield entails. We now offer a number of intensive sessions including a very short interview for as many candidates as possible. Music Open/Interview Days give you the chance to find out more about the type of academic and social life you can expect from studying at Sheffield. You will receive an invitation to come and visit us. You will receive an extended tour, led by a current student or member of staff, meet in groups for around 30 minutes for an open discussion and then receive a short (< 10 minutes) interview. You will then have the opportunity to socialise with staff and students over refreshments. It is essential that you know exactly what to expect from our degree programme.
Open / Interview Days for 2013 entry to Music@Sheffield will be listed early into the 2012 academic cycle:
(If you feel you can commit the time it is well worth visiting the University as a whole on a Campus Wide Open Day then visiting the music department again in February / March 2013 for a much more detailed view and a chance to see the department 'at work'.)
Interviews will normally take place from 10:00-11:00, 11:00-12:00, 12:00-13:00 and will include round table discussion in small groups followed by interviews with members of staff. We can not interview all applicants. Do not feel offended if you just receive an offer invitation to an open afternoon. If you feel strongly that your case would be best served by being interviewed please contact Jo Burrows.
Music Open days will run from 13:00 - 16:00 (see timetable below).
- 14:00 Welcome and Introduction with Adrian Moore
- 14:30 Presentation by an academic memeber of staff on their specialised research area. Experience a small lecture

- 15:00 Tours. Applicants with our current students, parents with Adrian and Jo. A chance to ask further questions, perhaps about the social life in Sheffield and the Univeristy.
