Languages available to all
Welcome to the Modern Languages Teaching Centre. Our Department forms part of the School of Modern Languages and Linguistics (SOMLAL). The Modern Languages Teaching Centre was established in 1993 to make the learning of a range of foreign languages available to all students in the University.
New 10 credit unit "Intercultural Awareness with a Language" MLT120
A new 10 credit unit entitled "Intercultural Awareness with a Language" is being offered in 2009/2010 (Semester 2). This unit, which is relevant for students from all subject areas and levels (undergraduate and postgraduate), is being delivered in an accessible format by face-to-face teaching on 3 evenings over the semester and a range of online activities.
In this unit, you will develop your intercultural awareness and gain either a basic or intermediate knowledge of one of the following languages: Italian (Beginners), Spanish (Beginners), French (post -GCSE only). You will consider your own and others´ behaviour and cultural attitudes and the effect these have, along with developing your communications skills. These skills will be useful not only during your studies here in our multi-cultural/international environment, but will enhance your future employability as cultural "agility" is in increasing demand in the workplace, both in the UK and other countries.
