Modern Languages Teaching Centre

Welcome to the Modern Languages Teaching Centre. Our Department forms part of the School of Modern Languages and Linguistics (SOMLAL). The Modern Languages Teaching Centre was established in 1993 to make the learning of a range of foreign languages available to all students in the University.

In addition to our range of MA programmes, we offer a wide variety of language modules, from beginner to advanced level in Arabic, French, German, Italian, Latin and Spanish. Students can continue a language they have previously learnt or start a new one. Any student with unrestricted credits may take a language module with the MLTC. In fact, almost every degree in the University of Sheffield incorporates the possibility of studying a language with us. A range of self-funded courses is also available for members of staff and for students who would like to learn a language in addition to their degree course.
