School Mission and Objectives

Mission

The mission of the Medical School is to maintain the highest standards of excellence as a research-led department of international standing, whose staff work at the frontiers of academic enquiry and educate students in a research environment.

Objectives

  1. To undertake and support research of international standing in all research themes with the overall aim of bringing discoveries in molecular medicine into clinical practice.
  2. To recruit staff with the greatest potential to improve our research and hence our teaching.
  3. To provide innovative and high quality undergraduate and postgraduate teaching that is informed by the research background, scholarship and professional experience of the School staff.
  4. To fulfil the requirements of the relevant professional validating bodies, thereby enabling students to register successfully and practice within their chosen profession.
  5. To foster close collaboration and planning with the Hospitals and Primary Care Trusts. The Strategic Health Authority and other relevant NHS bodies in the region.
