The School's international reputation for research was recognised in the most recent Research Assessment Exercise, when the School achieved an overall score of 5 for hospital-based clinical subjects and clinical laboratory sciences and 4 for community-based clinical subjects.
The University of Sheffield has also been named UK University of the Year in the 2011 Times Higher Education Awards and the Sheffield Student's Union was rated top in the UK in the 2011 Times Higher Education Student Experience Survey.

PhD Research DegreesGraduates with, or who expect to receive either a first class, or upper second class degree, or who already have a Master's qualification in a suitable subject can enrol on a PhD course at the school. These are degrees by research, and offer you the chance to make a unique contribution to your selected field of study. |
MD Research DegreesGraduates in Medicine who are interested in research may be eligible to apply for the research degree of MD. |
