Sheffield Made Us!

Students from the University of Sheffield are in with a chance of winning £3000 as part of an innovative digital competition asking them to give an insight into their time at Sheffield.

The `Sheffield Made Us´ competition is calling on students to shoot a short film demonstrating how their experiences of the University and the city have helped define the person they are today.

The videos will demonstrate how time here at the University has helped students to discover and understand. This could relate to their subject, their outlook on life or the person they have become. The theme links in with the University´s motto `to discover and understand the causes of things.´

Entrants must post a film response to a Sheffield Made Us video on YouTube. A panel of judges will select an overall winner to walk away with the prize money. No previous film-making experience is required, as videos will be judged on their strength of idea, innovation and the number of views and ratings the video has on YouTube.

Adam Lumb, Head of Marketing at the University of Sheffield, said: "Many organisations dictate how they wish to be perceived without being prepared to listen. The University of Sheffield has a clear vision of what we stand for but we realise that our students are part of that vision and co-create it with us. Therefore we genuinely want our students to share with us their interpretation of our vision and tell us what it means to them. It's fascinating to watch the different perspectives being posted to You Tube."

Notes for Editors: The whole film should be a maximum of three minutes long, and students can enter as many times as they like, with the deadline for submissions on 19 October 2009.
