The UK’s commitment to an expansion of civil nuclear power generation, as well as a £70bn programme of decommissioning and cleanup of historic nuclear sites, means there is a growing demand for skilled nuclear engineers. Our MEng degree in Mechanical Engineering with Nuclear Technology has been specially designed in consultation with the nuclear industry to help to train the next generation of mechanical engineers required by the nuclear sector.

Nuclear engineering poses significant challenges for mechanical engineers, ranging from the power cycle design and the structural integrity of various reactor components to the effective cooling and energy transfer of the reactor. This MEng provides a broad knowledge and understanding of mechanical engineering together with a detailed critical understanding of nuclear engineering.

What You'll Study

The course follows our MEng in Mechanical Engineering for the first two years but in years three and four you’ll have the opportunity to specialise in nuclear engineering, through taught modules, an individual investigative project and a group design project focusing on nuclear technology.

Our nuclear laboratory module also gives you hands-on experience of working safely with radioactive sources, combined with an understanding of regulatory and safety principles.
