Formula Student is the biggest student motorsport competition in Europe. It sees teams from around the world design, build, test and race a single-seat racing car.

Every year mechanical engineering undergraduates take part in the challenge. Some even incorporate it into their final-year design project. On top of the hands-on engineering experience, it's a chance to gain essential business skills like marketing and costing.

Dilan Paranavithana moved from Sri Lanka to Sheffield to study with us. He graduated with an MEng in Mechanical Engineering with Industrial Management, and went on to do a graduate scheme at Rolls-Royce. He's now working for Rolls-Royce as a composites manufacturing engineer.
