The characterisation of proteins is of fundamental importance to an understanding of the disease state (the study being termed "Proteomics"). The Protein & DNA Facility is able to identify proteins using classical Edman protein sequencing techniques and by Peptide Mass Fingerprinting using Mass Spectrometry. The facility also provides a service for Peptide Synthesis, the peptide products being used primarily for immunology and enzymology. A DNA sequencing service is provided, using capilliary electrophoresis. DNA synthesis of standard primers (varying in length from 18 to 120 bases) and of primers containing modified bases is also provided by the facility.
