UCAS Open Days in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering
On receipt of your UCAS application you will be invited to one of our Open Days. These are designed for you to find out more about your course, the Department and the University. You will have the opportunity to chat with current students and staff, discuss job prospects after graduation, and to tour University accommodation and the campus, including the Students´ Union. As part of the admissions process you will also attend an interview with a member of our academic staff. You do not need to make any specific preparations for this, nor bring anything with you. The aim is to allow you to tell us about yourself and your interest in engineering. We will also ask you to talk us through some simple questions revolving around the properties and uses of materials, so that we can assess your powers of reasoning and how well you can apply your existing knowledge to unfamiliar situations. You do not need to wear your smartest clothes for this visit – just whatever you feel comfortable in.
Throughout the day, we will try to give you all the information you need to help you in your choice of university. As we believe that it is very important for you to have the opportunity to take a good look round before deciding where to live and study for the next three or four years.
