Nuclear Engineering Doctorate (EngD) programme

The Department of Engineering Materials offers fully funded places on the Nuclear Engineering Doctorate programme, led by The University of Manchester in partnership with Imperial College London. The Nuclear Engineering Doctorate is led at The University of Sheffield by Dr Neil Hyatt.
What is the Nuclear Engineering Doctorate?
The Nuclear Engineering Doctorate (EngD) is a four year research programme that combines the academic strengths of a conventional PhD with a taught programme which will develop the technical, business and personal skills of the research student. Engineering doctorate students, known as a Research Engineers, undertake their projects largely within an industrial company in the UK.
The Nuclear Engineering Doctorate comprises four components:
- A doctoral level research project of commercial relevance to the sponsoring company
- Taught technical modules from the NTEC MSc in Nuclear Science and Technology
- Diploma in Enterprise Managementdelivered by the Manchester Business School
- Professional development programme to develop self awareness and interpersonal skills
Who is the Nuclear Engineering Doctorate aimed at?
The Nuclear Engineering Doctorate is aimed at outstanding young students and aspiring industry professionals. The combination of taught modules and research project aims to prepare Research Engineers for senior technical and management roles in the nuclear industry. Fully funded EngD places are available for applicants holding a First or Upper Second Class honours degree in a relevant subject.
