After thirteen years of professional experience working for LloydsTSB plc, I gained a first class honors degree (BSc in Accountancy with Law) from the University of East Anglia in 2002 and a MBA (with distinction) from the University of Sheffield in 2003. I gained my doctorate in April 2012 on the effects of food marketing on children. I have been teaching at the university since 2004 and was appointed a full time Teaching Associate in Marketing in September 2010.
Research
Before undertaking my PhD I collaborated with Dr Mike Simpson investigating the critical success factors for owner-managers in SMEs. In addition, during my PhD I worked with Dr Caroline Oates on an Academy of Marketing funded project on the prominence of food products within children’s television programmes. My thesis examined the frequency and impact of different communications used by the UK food industry when targeting children.
PhD Supervision
As a full time teaching associate I do not supervise any PhD students.
Teaching
I teach to both undergraduate and postgraduate students. On the Business Management and International Business Management undergraduate programmes I teach a second year core module – Essentials of Marketing and a third year options of module – Integrated Marketing Communications where I use my own research to inform the module content. I also teach Marketing Management on a range of MSc programmes. Finally I teach Integrated Marketing Communications to our MBA students.
