Hang completed her PhD from University of Durham Business School in 2004. She also holds a BSc. (Econ) from Hanoi and an MSc (Int´l Finance and Banking) from Durham. Before joining the Management School in October 2008, Hang was a lecturer in Economics at Nottingham Trent University.
Hang´s research interests are corporate finance, including corporate diversification, insiders´ trading and auditing. Hang has published in academic journals such as European Financial Management, Applied Economics and Applied Financial Economics.
Hang has acted as referee for Journal of Comparative Economics, Managerial and Decision Economics, Journal of Policy Modelling, Economic Issues, Journal of Economics and Business and Omega, The International Journal of Management Science.
Hang teaches corporate finance and corporate restructuring to undergraduate and MSc students.
Hang welcomes PhD applicants interested in researching the field of corporate finance.
Teaching
Hang has taught on a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in finance, financial econometrics and statistics, both at Sheffield and in her previous post at the Nottingham Business School. Her teaching is informed by her research in corporate finance and international corporate governance.
Currently Hang is the module leader for the MBA Corporate Finance Module (MGT6340). This module aims to provide students with knowledge into advanced topics relating to corporate finance. In particular it explores how investment and financing decisions can affect firm value and how they can credibly signal information to outside investors about the firm´s prospects. It critically reviews both the recent theoretical literature as well as the empirical studies on the link between the investment and financing decisions and firm value. Intensive interaction during class time is strongly emphasised. Students are encouraged to work independently and collectively with real-life case studies and group presentations.
Hang is also the module leader for the MSc Finance Raising Capital Module (MGT6106). This module aims to provide students with knowledge into advanced topics relating to firms´ financing decisions and how those can affect firm value and can credibly signal information to outside investors about the firm´s prospects. Intensive interaction during class time is strongly emphasised. Students are encouraged to work independently and collectively with real-life case studies and group presentations. Good quantitative skills are necessary to undertake this module.
Hang is also the module leader for the Level 2 Issues in Financial Management Module (MGT213). This module deals with a number of topical financial management issues such as the use of different types of finance in different contexts and the role and contribution of different finance providers. Students are encouraged to work independently and collectively with real-life case studies while weekly quiz is an effective way to help students grasp key concepts and ideas.
